What’s in store for the X-Men movies franchise? We have a vada…

The X-Men films and the spin-offs have been immensely popular thus far, but many fans are wondering just where the franchise is headed next. It’s been an unpredictable ride, with key characters being killed off and plots straying from the comic book canon – and sometimes rewriting the series’ own canon with a lengthy time-travelling plot. Nonetheless, when X-Men movies are about to be released, the hype surrounding them reaches a fever pitch. Here are some of the most highly anticipated films coming up next.

Wolverine 3

Release date: March 2, 2017

Word is that this will be the last film in which High Jackman plays the character that everyone has grown to love, and production has already started. The Wolverine director, James Mangold, has signed on for this film and the screenplay was created by Michael Green, who penned Heroes, Smallville, and Green Lantern.

Wolverine 3 may not actually be the title of this movie, and it’s not sure if we’ll get yet another origin story for the man with so many back-stories he never looks forward. What’s also unknown is what the inspiration for the film will be. The plot may reach into the character’s comic book past to please die-hard fans – particularly the Old Man Logan series where he was in a post-apocalyptic world. It wouldn’t be a big gamble to bet that this movie will be all kinds of awesome.

Gambit

Release date: Unknown

In case you haven’t heard the news, Gambit is getting a standalone film, and he’s being played by Channing Tatum. Whether this recasting is a hit remains to be seen, but many are hopeful that Tatum can step into the role and do the character justice. Frankly, after his appearance in Magic Mike, we’ll watch him in anything!

Because the screenplay had to be rewritten, there’s no solid release date yet. However, it could be late 2017 or early 2018 before Gambit hits the big screen.

Deadpool 2

Release date: Unknown

Though no one knows the release date for this X-Men offshoot, it’s certainly coming down the pipeline. Bisexual antihero Deadpool is a firm fan-favourite and a beloved of the team at Vada. He’s the type of guy who effortlessly pulls off many things at once (not a sex joke, honest!), which lends to the film’s frenetic energy. Every fight is a dance. Every act of heroism a chance to be wicked.

He’s the kind of character you could find satisfying his lust for excitement by simultaneously playing All Slots online roulette one-handed and then shooting seven bad guys with his off-hand. No doubt, he’d kill the bad guys (or maybe even the good guys, you can never be sure…) and then cash in his huge All Slots win – all while dropping hilarious one-liners. That’s why so many people loved the first Deadpool movie – it was all but a sure thing that audiences would get a sequel.

Ryan Reynolds has already signed on, and so have the writers of the first film, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Though few details about the story line have been revealed, what’s known is that Deadpool will get a new ally in the character Cable. We just hope the writers give some real commitment to the bisexual themes this time…

X-Force

Release date: Unknown

After Ryan Reynolds is done working on the next Deadpool, he’s going to turn right to working on X-Force. This is going to be a favorite of those who like darker and grittier films, as well as fans of the X-Force comics. Cable, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Deadpool are rumoured to be joining the storyline – given that Reynolds has already made it clear he’s involved, there’s little doubt about his character.

We’re actually quite looking forward to seeing more of Negasonic ‘Sinead O’Connor’ Teenage Warhead. I mean, who doesn’t love this look?
