Apocalypse, via Carly Rae Jepsen

Web artist Jesse Darling’s new video for The New Inquiry is a compulsively watchable homage to 2012. Clocking in at just one minute and seven seconds in length, Apocalypse Now (2012) is a brief and brave video montage of key events in 2012, both nice and nasty, Olympics to Gaza – with a tinny audio of Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe as its subversive backdrop.

It’s worth a watch, and then perhaps another. Only the most nihilistic government minister or CEO would be hoping this goes viral. Currently I’m on my fourth play of it. It seems to be a fitting tribute to Planet Earth in the wake of the so far unfulfilled (fingers crossed) Mayan Prophecy.
