Do you have an idea for a performance that might work at a future queer performance showcase in Manchester? Perhaps you have a work in progress that you feel could do with an outside eye? If so, our friends over at Mother’s Ruin might be able to help!
Mother’s Ruin is planning a number of free artist development workshop days in January and February 2015, offering support to LGBT+ performing artists across the North West. They’re now inviting expressions of interest.
What’s involved?
In these sessions, you can:
-Meet with the Mother’s Ruin team to discuss ideas for future performances
-Access Mother’s Manchester city centre rehearsal space to try out your ideas
-Receive an hour’s free mentoring and directing advice from artistic director, Lisa Lee of London performance troupe, The Lipsinkers
-There are six spots available each day for individuals or companies on the following days:
1. Sat 17th January 2015 between noon and 8pm.
2. Sun 18th January 2015 between 11am and 6pm.
‘The workshop was a great way of settling ideas of how the performance would fit in the space… most of all it was great to have some direct, informative feedback on my show. I liked how it was very much an open atmosphere and not a panel style ‘audition’ feel, as some showings can be.’ – Workshop attendee feedback
Where are they held?
Sessions are held in Manchester city centre, conveniently located near to rail, coach and bus transport links. Unfortunately, Mother’s Ruin can’t cover expenses for the workshops.
How can you apply?
Please send a short email to news@mothersruin.co.uk briefly outlining your idea and any relevant experience you have, and indicating what days/times are most convenient for you. The deadline for applications is 5pm, Friday 19 December.
About the programme
The Artist Development Programme provides free professional development opportunities to LGBT+ and alternative artists in the North West and beyond.
Previous sessions have been held in conjunction with Mother’s Bloomers: Mother’s Ruin’s dedicated performance platform for new ideas and works in progress held at The King’s Arms, which will return in 2015. Mother’s Ruin is also exploring ways of making the Artist Development Programme more accessible to artists outside of Manchester through travel bursaries.
