An artist who I am sure will break from beneath the radar in 2014 is Danish singer/songwriter MØ. She is already signed to Sony Music Entertainment due to the originality of her signature brand of electronic pop and shows no signs of losing momentum.
Having released an extremely strong EP entitled Bikini Daze in October which included the single ‘XXX 88’, a collaboration with the incredibly successful producer Diplo, she also released three intriguing singles in 2013, the first of which was ‘Glass’. This begins as a sugary sweet pop track before expanding into an anthemic percussion heavy anthem with choruses of ‘hey, hey, hey’ laced with intelligent lyrical content.
The next release was my personal favourite, ‘Pilgrim’. The old style trumpeting and warped video all add to the surreal nature of this electro gem, with its slow jam pace and crooning vocal chorus making it easily one of the most surreal pop songs released for many years. Mø’s ridiculously cool persona gleams on each of her releases and the swagger present in her verse collides head on with the frantic nature of her choruses. You best holla.
The final single was her most commercial for a UK audience due to Kopparberg using ‘Waste of Time’ within its summer advertising campaign. This was the most original dance track recorded in 2013 supported by production values of absolute perfection and a disco drenched chorus that will make every last one of your nerves want to wiggle uncontrollably. Think Lana Del Rey on cocaine in a 12 hour rave.
Her debut album ‘No Mythologies To Follow’ will be released in the UK on the 24th of February. All we know so far is that the 12 track album will feature all four singles mentioned along with EP track ‘Never Wanna Know’ which showcases Mø’s balladic capabilities. She has also released the preceding single ‘Don’t Wanna Dance’ which was named Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World, you can see the video below.
So get familiar with this talented songstress and her live persona and visceral talent. She’s going to be around for the long run. Tickets are still available to her UK tour here: www.momomoyouth.com
