Lea Michele has not had an easy year, but she is still releasing her debut single Cannonball. The song is dedicated to Cory Monteith, who died in July.
The single was released in America on the 10th of December, but will not reach the UK until February and album Louder will be released in early March.
The album also features songs If You Say So and You’re Mine both dedicated to Cory. The album was supposed to come out in summer 2013 and was finished back in June. In a recent interview on Ellen, she announced that Cory had heard all but two songs on the album.
Cannonball is an uplifting track that gives strength to those who are feeling low. The song is neither too mainstream nor too musical theatre. Lea’s vocals find a balance without being overproduced like a Glee track.
Hopefully a great video will be released soon, but for now the track stands on its own as a fantastic sound.
Lea is not the only cast member of Glee who has released solo material. Naya Rivera who plays Santana on Glee also released her debut single this year.
Naya and her fiancé Big Sean released her single Sorry back in September this year. Unfortunately there was never an official video for the track. She is currently signed to Columbia Records.
The lyric video is practically porn anyway, so I guess it never needed a video. So much for female empowerment…
Other members of the cast have done solo work in the past including Darren Criss, Matthew Morrison and Mark Salling.
You can catch both Lea and Naya on Glee which airs on Sky1 Friday at 9pm. The show is on its fifth season featuring guest artists including: Adam Lambert and Demi Lovato.
