My loved-up playlist: Adam Lowe

Adam Lowe

I’m probably not the first of us to admit to playing certain songs on repeat whenever I meet a guy I really like. I used to constantly add romance to my life by curating love-inspired playlists, and these would fill me with all manner of bubbly, gooey feelings. I was in a long-term relationship for three years, so stopped playing these playlists so much. But then, after a year being single, I started playing them. Perhaps a good sign, or perhaps just a sign of my imminent spinsterhood. I share some of my favourites here for your own elation – feel free to chuck up.

Cherish the Day – Sade

This song always fills we with loveliness. The music itself plucks as if at your mood, to lift you up, while Sade’s soothing vocal soars over the top.

It’s Love – Jill Scott

This is Jill Scott at her very best. She begins with an eloquent tale of love, and descends into babbling joy. And boy, Jill scats so well!

I Want You – Erykah Badu

Another lovesong that borders on madness (okay, this one is actually just mad), ‘I Want You’ is a 10-minute odyssey into infatuation. The breakdown is absolutely brilliant, and the simplicity of the lyrics contrasts nicely with the bonkers jazz influences of the music.

Fields of Gold – Sting

Sting’s voice is just sunshine here. You can hear his voice trilling like the summer wind over the titular fields of gold as he sings this. The bagpipes in the background are just sublime.

You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real) – Sylvester

This disco classic by the fabulous Sylvester (RIP) ticks all the right boxes. It’s upbeat, it’s memorable, and Sylvester’s voice is just utterly distinctive. Oh yes!
