Sam Smith wins four Grammy Awards

Of everyone who was nominated, Sam Smith turned out to be the night’s biggest winner at this year’s Grammy Awards.

The out gay singer, who is best known for songs like ‘Latch’ and ‘Stay With Me’, won awards in four of the six categories he was nominated for. He won awards for Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for ‘Stay With Me (Darkchild Version)’ and Best Pop Vocal Album for last year’s In The Lonely Hour.

Smith was also nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and Album of the Year but lost to Pharrell Williams and Beck, respectively.

In his acceptance speech for Record of the Year, the singer said: ‘I want to thank the man who this record is about, who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart, because you got me four Grammys.’

These were not the only notable words to come from Smith’s mouth. In his acceptance speech for Song of the Year, he says: ‘I just want to say that before I made this record, I was doing everything to try and get my music heard. I tried to lose weight, and I was making awful music; and it was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen, so thank you guys for accepting me to be just me. Thank you.’

Cleaning up at the Grammys is not the only thing Smith did last night. He also performed his hit ‘Stay with Me’ alongside friend and collaborator Mary J. Blige. Take a look at the video below:
