Tim Firmager tells us which five songs are keeping him sane this week in this installment of What’s On Your Playlist.
Rae Morris – Unguarded
Rae Morris, long-listed for the BBC Sound of 2015, recently released her first album of the same name. I love to close my eyes on the tube and let my mind drift away with this atmospheric song while pondering the well written lyrics.
Madonna – Iconic
Madonna’s latest (thirteenth – it really has been that many, I had to check) album, Rebel Heart, has suffered leaks in 2014, but it has now been officially released (in tranches). ‘Iconic’ is from the second tranche, and I can’t wait until this track oozes into the club scene – there will be some great remixes for sure.
Sia – Elastic Heart
Sia has collaborated with… well, everyone worth knowing. Every track from her latest album 1000 Forms of Fear is impressive with ‘Elastic Heart’ being my favourite. Not least, because she teamed up with Diplo to produce it. His electric vibes framed her powerful vocals so well.
Enrique Iglesias – Tonight I’m Loving You
Every time I listen to Enrique it feels like it should be a guilty pleasure, but really, I have no shame. I’ve even seen him live and loved every minute of it. This song is often pumping out in my gym and always gets me psyched for exercise, even when I have the remnants of a hangover.
First Aid Kit – My Silver Lining
First Aid Kit, if you’ve not heard of them yet, are sisters from Sweden. I discovered them by chance a few weeks ago at a live performance. Their rich and polished vocals are beautifully supported by the string arrangements. ‘My Silver Lining‘ makes me reminisce about previous festivals and gets me in the mood to party outside again during the upcoming summer months.
