FIVE SONGS YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT.
1- Jason DeRulo – The Other Side
Despite having questionable talent, Jason DeRulo has put out some of the catchiest songs of the last 5 years, including his 2 UK #1s ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ and ‘In My Head’. This, the first release from his forthcoming third album, continues his style of delivering autotuned vocals to air-punching electro-pop synths. The video showcases both his talents on the dancefloor and the bedroom, and for that I can forgive the attempt at falsetto. Besides the song itself is an absolute cracker!
2- Mika ft. Ariana Grande – Popular Song
Everyone’s second favourite Freddy Mercury is back this week, and in case you hadn’t realised, this is in fact the third single from Mika’s latest album. However, thanks to featuring latest American Pop sensation Ariana Grande, this one is looking like becoming a sizeable hit. Fellow gays, I should warn you that some of you will find the sample of the Wicked song ‘Popular’ to be distasteful, but it’s certainly working for me.
3- Sia – Kill And Run
I slightly touched upon the new soundtrack to the movie, The Great Gatsby last week with Nero’s latest single, but now I’ve had a chance to listen to the full set, I’ve selected Sia’s ‘Kill And Run’ as the highlight. The epic ballad, which rivals any Florence or Paloma song, begs the question as to why the Australian songstress had to work with the likes of David Guetta and Flo Rida to ever achieve any mainstream success. It’s with tracks like this, creating a thunderous atmosphere with a gigantic production and vocals that just soar, that she really shines as an artist.
4- Baby & Me – Here Comes The Hotstepper
What could be a better recipe for success than an Evian advert featuring street-dancing babies to one of your favourite 90s party tracks? One hit wonders, Ini Kamoze took ‘Here Comes The Hotstepper’ to the top 5 back in 1995. Fast forward 18 years (really!) and it’s been refreshed with a new thumping beat. The only thing left to do is see if you can keep up with the babies!
5- Spencer & Hill ft.Mimoza – Let Out Da Freak
Need a dance anthem for the weekend? Reach out for kings of the remix, Spencer & Hill’s latest effort ‘Let Out Da Freak’. The production duo have previously created remixes for Sugababes, Taio Cruz and Afrojack, but now look to have some success in their own right with this. Originally released last Summer, thanks to a new remix by dBerrie, they’re sounding on point to brighten up any outdoor Pride party this Summer. Anthems like this weren’t meant to be for dark & dingy clubs.
