FIVE SONGS YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT.

1- Jessica Sanchez ft. Ne-Yo – Tonight

Jessica Sanchez is runner up of the most recent American Idol talent show, a programme I’d all but forgotten about, if it wasn’t for the media coverage of rival judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. On this single, Jessica and R&B superstar Ne-Yo, showcase their exceptional voices across a stunning Stargate production. The track dips between adrenaline pumped highs with a Beyonce-like power vocal, to softer moments of passion, not miles away from the equally Ne-Yo featuring track ‘Give Me Everything’ by Pitbull.

2- Freemasons – Bring It Back

Just a few short years ago the Freemasons were the unstoppable sound of British house and remixing, turning singles by Beyonce, Whitney and Kelly Rowland into both club and chart hits. Starting life under the name Phats & Small, they scored their first hit back in 1999 with ‘Turn Around’. Throughout their time on the circuit they have developed a wealth of knowledge and skill to perfect their craft. ‘Bring it Back’, which seems to have quite a literal title, serves as their first release as a band in 3 years. There’s a definite nod to Daft Punk’s classic 1997 album Homework, and even further back to 70s electronic pioneers Kraftwerk.

3- Little Mix ft. Missy Elliott – How Ya Doin?

X-Factor darlings Little Mix return this week with the fourth single from their hit album, DNA. This release gives us what we were promised from these four sassy harmonious girls. Channelling all your New Jack Swing favourites from En Vogue, All Saints and SWV. The verses pack a Joss Stone punch while the delightfully simplistic chorus is performed with some serious gusto. The single has been slightly tweaked from the original album version, but importantly features Missy Elliott which only adds to the authenticity of the retro sound that the girls have conquered.

4- Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton – Can’t Hold Us

In the last few months Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have spun the music industry on its head with their catchy, original and inspiring hits. They’ve proved that in 2013 a major record label just comes as baggage. Helping to budget their album they feature stars of YouTube rather than major players in R&B, in this instance the John-Legend-toned, Ray Dalton. The ‘Can’t Hold Us’ bassline rattles along to the melodic verses of Macklemore, flowing into a delightfully foot-tapping chorus. This promises to follow in the rather large footsteps of ‘Thrift Shop’.

5- Misha B – Here’s To Everything (Ooh La La)

At the start of 2011’s X-Factor live shows, Misha B looked like a favourite to become the year’s champion, a feat which later went to girlband, Little Mix. But things haven’t turned so sour for Misha who has already notched up 2 critically acclaimed hit singles and now launches her third, ‘Here’s To Everything’. The track echoes some sounds of 90s Jungle and Drum & Bass, while making use of the hook of Fugee’s chart-topper ‘Ready Or Not’. With this track Misha has established herself as a serious force to be reckoned with.
