Covid-19 may have caused this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam to be cancelled, but that hasn’t stopped people finding ways to fill the void.

Swedish Broadcaster SVT will continue to hold a contest using the music videos for each of this year’s entries in a similar format to the contest itself.

The BBC will show Eurovision: Come Together. It will feature classic Eurovision performances with a theme of uniting the country.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has also announced its own filler, Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light, which will air on 16 May, the date of what would’ve been this year’s final. The show is designed to pay tribute to this year’s 41 entries with more details yet to be revealed.

Over recent weeks, re-runs of previous contests have been streamed on YouTube through #EurovisionAgain.

At Vada we also want to get in on the action of filling the Eurovision void and therefore I am pleased to announce we will be hosting our very own “Übervision Song Contest”.

Through our new twitter account @UbervisionSC we will be taking the last four years of Eurovision and holding a contest to find an ultimate winner.

The first stage will be to pick an entry to represent each country. We will hold our “National Selections” via twitter polls, where you will select an act from the last 4 years to represent that country (please note 2020 entries won’t be included):

Once we have our representatives for each country, the acts will be separated into two semi-finals and you will be able to vote on who you want to go through to the final through an online survey (due to the limitations of a twitter poll).  26 songs will then go on to compete in our final and as per real life, the “Big 4” countries (France, Germany, Italy and the UK) will automatically qualify. We will then release another survey where you can dish out your votes by ranking your top 10.

Key Dates:

  • The National selections will take place from Monday 13 April 2020 and conclude on Sunday 10 May 2020.
  • The Survey for Semi Final 1 will go live on Tuesday 12 May 2020.
  • The Survey for Semi Final 2 will go live on Thursday 14 May 2020.
  • And the Survey for the Final will go Live on Saturday 16 May 2020.

We at Vada know nothing could compare to a fresh Eurovision Song Contest, especially for those avid fans who have been watching the selections in the build up, but we hope you will enjoy this bit of fun instead. Please share amongst your friends and do follow @UbervisionSC to keep up-to-date and vote.
