After its successes at the 2016 Emmys, where it picked up three awards, cast and crew of the popular Westeros-based fantasy drama Game of Thrones spoke about the TV future of the franchise after seasons 7 and 8.
Showrunner David Benioff said, ‘You might want to ask George [R.R. Martin] about that. I’m sure there will be other series set in Westeros. But for us, this is it. So that’s really a question for George.’
Of the upcoming Season 7, showrunner D.B. Weiss said, ‘It will be bigger and it will be better. And it will also be worse. But mostly better.’
Author George R.R. Martin is currently at work on the last two GoT novels: The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring, but has said he’s not pursuing future spin-offs at present.
‘Well I do have thousands of pages of fake history that have led up to Game of Thrones. At the moment, we still have a show to finish and I still have two books to finish. So for now, that’s all speculation.’
