Yinhe Li is a sociologist, sexologist and an LGBT rights activist in the People’s Republic of China.
Yinhe was born in 1952 and is a sociologist with a strong interest in womens studies, sexuality and sexual norms in contemporary China. She obtained her sociology PhD in the United States and has since worked in Peking University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She has published a number of works, all exploring sexuality and sexual behaviours in China. Between 1991 – 1998, she published works exploring sexuality, power, marriage, the changing landscape of the family and sadomasochism.
Yinhe is an active LGBT activist and is strongly encouraging people to re-assess traditional attitudes towards both sexuality and sexual behaviours. She has thus far submitted three papers to the national committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to legalise gay marriage. None have been successful.
She is also actively lobbying for the decriminalisation of sex work and to prevent the enforcement of monogamy by law.
