The Damsel Collective is a radical new space for women+ to connect in Hackney, London. Here’s everything you need to know.
The Damsel Collective
The Damsel Collective is designed to serve as a sanctuary and social hub for women+ including queer women, lesbians, trans women, and transgender people of all genders. It is one of the few spaces in the UK that actively encourages trans inclusion while creating a nightlife and cultural experience that is free from unaccompanied cis male presence.
The venue is split across two floors:
- The ground floor is a café by day, offering locally sourced drinks, light bites, networking events, workshops and meeting spaces. The space transforms into a cocktail bar by night, featuring a signature cocktail menu.
- The basement is a multi-use cultural space for workshops, performances, panels, film screenings, and parties – all led by women+ creatives and community organisers.
The Damsel Collective is underpinned by a framework for change that drives their agenda. This is made up of the following five initiatives:
- Improve lack of representation and visibility for women+ in the arts, business and culture
- Tackle gender inequality in professional and social spheres
- Reduce social isolation at different phases of womanhood
- Break barriers to career advancement and leadership
- Increase cultural representation and intersectional inclusion
