On 18 August 2014, despite below-freezing winds climber Keith Tomlinson, an out and proud gay man, climbed Mt Elbrus the tallest peak in Russia.

Tomlinson decided after an emotional tribulation earlier in the year to do something selfless. Within hours his trip was booked and paid for and he created a just giving page so as to gain funds for Stonewall.

Upon reaching the summit Keith raised the LGBT flag as a final sign of defiance against the Russian regime.
