White teeth are increasingly a thing here in the UK now. No longer the sole province of Hollywood movie stars, a beaming set of gnashers is now becoming more and popular – which means we’re getting more and more home whitening kits. These range from strange objects like teeth-guards to swabs, with creams, pastes and gels that promise all kinds of results.
Coming in a pack of seven liquid-filled swabs, this peroxide-free home teeth whitening kit claims to have results from day one. Within seven days, the manufacturers claim, you can see your teeth up to nine shades whiter. The swabs work on all tooth surfaces, whether natural teeth, caps, crowns, veneers or dentures. The Instant Whites Swabs are also pH-balanced to re-hydrate enamel.
I tried the Instant Whites to see if they worked–and the claim that we’d notice changes after the first use was proven true. The change was small but noticeable. It’s probably a good idea to take a picture before and after each treatment so you can monitor your progress–naturally, the darker your teeth were to begin with, the more of a difference you’ll notice.
A week later, the effect is very good indeed. I’d say my teeth had some yellowing near the gum, but were mostly pretty white. The dentist always compliments me on my teeth. So I think the change may be more dramatic if I’d been a smoker or a frequent red wine drinker. Naturally, though, such day-to-day staining would mean this isn’t a long-term solution, but at the price (RRp: £29.99, currently on offer for £24.99 from Boots) it’s a good way to regularly maintain your pearly whites. Time will tell how long this new shade lasts.
Using the swabs
Ensuring the swab tip is in an upright position, slowly begin to collapse both ends till the swab tip becomes moist with liquid. Use the swab tip to lightly rub and apply a small amount of liquid on the surface of all teeth to be whitened. A circular rubbing technique is recommended for 10-20 seconds per tooth, or five minutes for all teeth. Rinse your mouth with warm water after use. You should not eat or drink for 30 minutes after use.
