Having healthy hair can really improve your overall appearance, making you look vibrant and glowing. Unfortunately, many of the things we do everyday damage our hair and make it look dull and lifeless. Even air pollution can have an impact on our hair and skin. A good haircut will usually help to revitalise your hair, from then onwards you should take some simple steps to make sure you are keeping it in top condition. It’s important to remember that not all damage to hair can be so easily reversed. Sometimes people suffer with health conditions such as alopecia, which causes hair loss, and they may need a hair transplant to help improve the appearance of their hair.
It’s no secret that the food we consume has an impact on the way our body looks and feels. Your hair is no exception. Taking the time to eat a balanced diet which is rich in oils, such as Omega3, which help to make hair shiny and strong will really make a difference. You should also consume plenty of protein, which encourages cell growth and repair. Iron is also advised as part of a balanced diet, this can be found in red meat and leafy greens, like spinach. Be sure to drink plenty of water every day too.
Using natural shampoo has become popular recently. This is shampoo which is free from harsh chemical ingredients and instead relies upon natural ingredients like plants. Using natural shampoo should improve the condition of your hair over time and it could also reduce the amount of scalp irritation you suffer from. People with conditions like eczema and those who suffer from dandruff may notice the biggest difference to their scalp. It is recommended that shampoo is only applied to the scalp, not the ends, and the opposite for conditioner. This will help your hair to get the best benefits from the products without causing any more damage.
Use Cold Water
Washing your hair in cold water may not sound like the most enjoyable experience but heat damage the hair and dries it out. You don’t have to take your whole shower in arctic conditions, but try to turn the dial down a notch. Washing your conditioner out with cold water can be very beneficial though, as it helps make the hair sleek and shiny.
Avoid Heat Styling
We subject our hair to a lot of damage when we use hair straighteners, curlers and hairdryers every day. In the summer, you may notice that your hair is drier from the sun too so the last thing you need is extra heat damage! Applying heat to your hair dries it out and causes split ends, so if you can’t leave the house without styling it, try to reduce the amount your use heat styling tools to 2-3 times per week instead of every day. Try leaving your hair to dry overnight, this is one of the easiest ways to cut out heat styling from your routine.
