Fashion, function, fabric: 3 rules for a great winter jacket

Daniel Wren

With winter fast approaching, it’s that time of year to think about buying yourself a top-notch winter coat. We previously featured some tasty leather bags from Barneys, available from il2l.com, and today we’re presenting you with two of their all-purpose winter coats.

There are just three rules for picking the perfect winter jacket – in my opinion. These three Fs will stand you in good stead for a jacket that you can keep for years: fashion, function and fabric.

While considering the fashion element, you want something that will remain stylish for years to come, and not date within a season. Functionality is important too – the jacket should be warm, sturdy and comfortable. You want good zips or buttons (there’s nothing worse than flimsy zips that break after a week) and a lining that keeps the heat in. Most importantly, the fabric is the packaging that should hold together both of these elements by looking and feeling great, and keeping you snug.

Barneys Men’s Leather Funnel Neck Jacket

ILW365-1095

This delicious number is made from 100% real leather. With its double collar, centre-front fastening, additional inner zip, horizontal zip pockets to the chest and two lower-angled jet pockets add up to a very distinctive look. Open it up and you’ll see a very tasteful and lightly quilted checked lining, plus an internal pocket to the left chest and a seam detail to the sleeves.
