Festival season is about to kick off. You’ve got the ticket, now get the style. Here are some of the biggest festival fashion tips for summer 2013:
The Mac
When packing for a festival, it’s not just about style, but also substance. Luckily macs are back in fashion! Highstreet stores, including Topman, are currently stocking a huge range of macs in a plethora of colours. Khaki green is great for adding to the grungy, 90s feel of current trends, while bold neons brighten up a dull day and keep you from blending into the crowds. Lightweight and waterproof are a must, as British weather is rarely predictable!
Clashing Colours
Festivals are about letting your imagination fun wild. Clashing colours and prints have been all over the Spring / Summer catwalks, but most people are usually too tame to team floral shirts and bright colour jeans – BUT here’s your chance – anything goes beyond the festival gates! So be brave, surprise yourself – wear a bold print tee and clash it with your shorts.
DIY Denim
Experiment with your unworn denim – cut the sleeves off an old jacket. Don’t worry about the fabric fraying – it adds a distressed or vintage feel. You may have a pair of jeans that haven’t seen the light of day for quite some time – give them the chop! Cut just above the knee and roll a couple of times to hide the raw edge. Your old jeans are now on-trend shorts! If you’re feeling confident with customising, try bleaching your chop-shop creations. Light wash denim is huge right now. If your garment is looking dark, let it soak in a large container of water and bleach until it has lightened to your desired tone – just remember to give it a good wash before wearing!
Tie Dying
Much easier than it sounds, tie dying is a great way of customising a tee while getting in the festival mood. It’s hard to go wrong when tie dying – every result will vary, leaving you with a truly unique piece. A tie dyed vest would sit well under your DIY denim jacket!
Leather Jackets
Keeping you looking cool throughout the day, and warm at night, the leather jacket is a festival must have. Team with a pair of classic hi tops for an effortlessly cool look. Wear a bold shirt underneath, adding layers and depth while making your outfit interchangeable throughout the unpredictable days.
Wellies
While wellies are much more of a necessity than a fashion accessory, there’s no need to keep things simple! The boring green Wellington boot is a thing of the past. Most online retailers now offer an extensive range of colours, prints and styles. Shop around and find something uniquely you.
While we can’t promise you sunshine, we can guarantee you’ll look great this festival season!
