Summer season is now upon us – better late than never! We feature the season’s coolest new trends, and transition from beach to street.

Seersucker Shorts

Showcased on many spring / summer 2013 catwalks, seersucker shorts traditionally come in stripes and checks, but many designers have now made them available in solid colours too. The sharp tailored shorts are made entirely from cotton and, due to the puckering, hang away from the skin – allowing that all important breeze and heat circulation to take place during the summer months. Light, cool and work well with anything – Seersucker shorts are a huge must-have for summer.

Sunglasses

Sunglasses don’t get much more iconic than the Ray-Ban aviator. The silver metal frames and graduating grey lenses are a true investment piece that will never go out of style. If you’re not looking for a pair of fashion sunglasses then rimless acetate frames, like those by Maui Jim, follow a sportier vibe. Feeling brave? – Try a pair of print wayfarer-influenced sunnies – from Aztec to camouflage, highstreet retailers have gone crazy for patterned frames.

Nostalgic Tees

Combining edgy sportswear designs with retro prints and colours, resulting in an explosive combination of lifestyles culminating in cut ‘n’ sew brights and heavily washed acids. Relaxed fits compliment the chilled out surf vibe – when worn with bleached out denim shorts, the look translates away from the beach.

Surf and Turf Hybrid

It’s important to be stylish and practical while packing for a day by the sea. Ocean Pacific’s new Surf and Turf Hybrid looks likes shorts, but are made from polyester and spandex to quick-dry like a swimsuit. No need to change – wear them in the water, dry off, and throw on a tee – the ultimate, versatile, space saver.

The Beach Bag

The perfect bag is hard to find, but Jack Spade’s Swedish M90 Cordura Dipped Coal Bag is equipped for everything the beach may offer. The water-repellent fabric and reinforced waxwear bottom on this sturdy tote will stand up to the sea, sun and sand. Featuring the distinct ‘splinter camouflage’ pattern, it offers a quirky twist on one of the seasons biggest trends.

Sandals

Step out in style this summer with a pair of sandals. Since their appearance on the SS13 catwalks of Paris Fashion Week, sandals are now available in a plethora of styles and colours, adding contemporary edge to any outfit. PS by Paul Smith offer their take with a cross strap in leather, while Burberry Prorsum has brought the gladiator sandal right up to date with a chunkier sole.

There you have it, six trends to keep you looking hot on the beach this summer. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
