Review: Champagne Breakfasts at Hilton Manchester

Adam Lowe

When we were told that Cloud 23 at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate was offering a sumptuous, limited edition Champagne Breakfast, we thought it was about time we ditched the morning Starbucks to enjoy an indulgent start to the day.

Guests at Cloud 23 arrive at the Hilton and have an express elevator from the ground floor right to the restaurant-bar itself. You can avoid the hustle and bustle of early morning Deansgate, and the hotel residents checking in and out, to get straight to the sky-high bar and its breathtaking vantage point across Manchester.

We were seated by the floor-to-ceiling windows, where we could see the city unravel before us. There the morning clouds peeled open as if to join in our brunch-time delight. The view, of course, is superb, and worth the price tag of the Champagne Breakfast alone. Gazing out, I was reminded of the gorgeous print of Bohuslav Barlow’s ‘Dawn Over Manchester’ which hangs in my dining room.

Service was prompt, with champagne brought soon after we were seated, and then on tap (metaphorically speaking) thereafter. We were also served fresh herbal teas and fantastic quality coffee that trounces the high-street chains.

The food itself is delicious. Modelled on Cloud 23’s fantastic afternoon tea offering, the breakfast comes serves on a three-tier stand with fresh fruit salad and granola compote on the top; scrambled eggs and salmon, Somerset brie and parma ham on the middle shelf; and fresh pastries, including croissants, Danish pastries and mini pancakes with maple syrup and berries on the bottom shelf.

We were starving when we arrived, but it’s fair to say we were pleasantly plump by the end. It was enough, then, to sit and bask in the view with our bubbly, the scent of freshly brewing mint tea rising, as the sunshine tore through a usually dreary Manchester to give us a rather glorious late morning. Maybe it was the champagne, maybe it was the warm glow from breakfast, but it was certainly a fantastic start to the day.

Available on Saturdays and Sundays until the end of July, guests can enjoy the perfect formula of fine food, bubbles and sophisticated surroundings, basking in spectacular views of the city that Cloud 23 offers.

The Champagne Breakfast is available for only £35 per person. If you’re really celebrating you can enjoy free flowing champagne for just £55* per person.

Available 9.30am- 11am. To make a reservation for champagne Breakfast in Cloud 23 call 0161 870 1670 or book online.
