The best thing about Slovakia’s High Tatras is that holidays there are just a fraction of the cost of many other European ski resorts. The fabulous combination of excellent snow conditions, uncrowded slopes and a strong ski school coaching programme makes Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains a great choice whatever your level of expertise.

Destination specialists Mountain Paradise recommend that beginners focus on the High Tatras resorts of Strbske Pleso and Tatranska Lomnica to break in their skis. As well as gorgeous 12km ski slopes, Strbske Pleso also has a snowboard fun park.

Guests at Strbske Pleso can also use the regular shuttle service to the Lomnica resort, which includes a number of new, lower slopes, perfect for beginners.

Six accommodation options are available, from 5-star luxury to an authentic pension-style bolthole.

Right at the ski slopes of Tatranská Lomnica and offering ski-to-door access and a wellness centre, why not visit Cedar Chalet? The chalet is a Canadian log house with eight spacious, double rooms and two suites, all with en-suite bathrooms.

You can enjoy the stylish lounge area and popular après-ski bar, which serves a range of local draft beers and wines. Guests at the chalet have access to a wellness area with a sauna and hot tub, an onsite café, a games room with billiards and table tennis, and a kid’s play room.
