With only four more sleeps till Pushca Undercover, we spoke to veteran DJ Tom Novy about the event, his career, and his future.

Vada: Are you looking forward to appearing at Pushca Undercover and have you got any Pushca memories as a clubber or Guest DJ?

Tom Novy: Yes I am really looking forward to Pushca Undercover as it’s my first time. I’ve heard a lot of naughty rumours and I’m keen to find out if it’s true.

What can people expect from your set?

I don’t know yet exactly so I’ll wait and see what the crowd is up to that night. Of course I will play my latest productions and remixes and I’m sure it’s gonna be a wild one.

How did you get your start as a DJ and when did you get the desire to give it a try?

I started in 86 at my school. At first the turntables gave us the chicks, which was great.

What’s been your motivation as a DJ? What still drives you and how would you describe your DJ style?

Always music. I’ve been in love with music since I was a boy and DJing is a good exchange of energy. To come together and celebrate in our times is more important than ever and it’s still music that drives me and my style – Novy style. I was never into boxes and genres. That’s so boring.

Of all the accolades/accomplishments you’ve achieved over the years – what would you say has been your proudest moment?

I’m proud of all that I have achieved in my life and think I have made some good tracks. It’s hard to tell, but what makes me proud the most is my family and my kids. They are the more important achievement.

As a producer/remixer you’ve worked with some of the world’s biggest divas and artists. Is there something about certain artists in particular that inspires you? Of all the artists that you’ve worked with – is there one that has stood out to you the most? Or a favourite experience?

Oh there’s been a lot of beautiful people and artists I have worked with and most of them were nice and really precious human beings. The one I’ve always loved to work with is Abigail Bailey. She is one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard and her voice stands out from the crowd. I love working with her and she is a true friend since we met the first time in Angola, which was crazy fun.

How do you like to spend your time when you’re not behind the decks?

With my family and friends of course.

Name five tunes that you’d like to play for us right now?

‘Feel What You Want’ – Novy Edit – Phonique… Just finished.

‘Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe’ – Kendrick Lamar ft. Lady Gaga (Love Trap Music).

‘LOVE ‘ – Tom Novy & Christopher Groove. (It’s the New Single and I’m not sure if you’ve heard it yet but I’m really proud of this one.)

‘OCD’ – Abigail Bailey. (Abi’s new single is epic.)

‘House Nation’ – Tom Novy. (Coming out at the end of January and a tribute to the Housemaster Boyz.)

And one that you’d never play in a million years…

Everything from Loco Dice and all those Wannabe House gangsters and three chord Deep House bullshitters.

What’s the best thing about your life at the moment?

My life has been good all the time but to see my son growing is pure love.

What’s next for you?

A new album and single and a lot of good times with family and friends and of course a blow-out set at Pushca Undercover.

Finish the sentence. A good set starts with….?

A drink.

And ends with…?

A big smile on everyone’s faces

And what track should we be listening to as we head out the door to Pushca Undercover?

Anything that makes you go crazy of course.
