Joan Rivers has never been one to shy away from shocking comments – particularly when she has something to flog. But many in the LGBT+ communities are wondering if she’s finally gone too far in her transphobic tirade against Chaz Bono – which even makes fun of his dad’s death.
While speaking with Lamont Hill on HuffPost Life, Joan first makes jokes about civil rights hero Rosa Parks and then Anne Frank, who was murdered by the Nazis. She then goes on to make digs at Cher’s trans son, Chaz Bono, and his late father, Sonny Bono.
Joan likens Chaz Bono to a Ken doll, before saying, ‘I don’t know what’s connected and I hope for his sake it is. It nust be very hard. Your father’s not too bright – you know, skied into a tree and there was no snow.’
Sonny Bono died in a skiing accident in 1998. He had given up his music career and was a US Congressman at the time.
Joan went on to defend herself by adding, ‘You know, we’re all celebrities and just be lucky people know who you’re talking about. You don’t make jokes about people no one knows.’
Joan Rivers previously ridiculed Chaz Bono when he appeared on the US show Dancing with Stars. She said Chaz would be appearing in a new Simon Cowekk show called The XY Factor.
