WTF – armed robbers in ‘drag’ hit Post Office

We couldn’t believe this news story when we heard it – and we think you’ll be astonished too.

This morning, a Post Office branch in Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, was held up by a pair of armed robbers. This might seem like any other robbery, except for one interesting detail: the culprits, originally believed to be women, are thought to be men in women’s clothing.

In their disguise, the pair wore wigs and women’s clothing, while pushing a wheelchair. They fired two shots at 9.30am and took an ‘unknown amount’ of cash, according to West Yorkshire Police. A burnt-out Nissan Juke was found nearby, which one Twitter user caught on camera:

‘An unknown amount of cash has been taken before the suspects have made off, leaving behind the wheelchair,’ said a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.

‘A male member of staff has been injured trying to stop the pair. He has been taken to hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.’

No one has been injured, and police are looking a white Mercedes which might have been involved, as well as a third suspect.

‘We believe that two vehicles were used in this incident and in addition to the two suspects who entered the post office there may have also been a driver involved. One of the vehicles, a Nissan Juke, has been located burnt out in Beeches End. The other vehicle involved is believed to be a white Mercedes,’ said Det Insp Phil Jackson.

The police also added, ‘Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to contact Leeds District CID on 101. Information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’

We’re unsure if the men were merely using the outfits as a disguise, or if the drag queens of Boston Spa are facing particularly hard times. What do you think?
