A Collection of Style – COS Simplicity

Who knew that H&M had a sophisticated sister?

H&M kept it relatively quiet, but the Swedish retail giant gave birth to a wonderfully minimalist child in 2007.

COS (It means ‘Collection of Style) was launched at a Royal Academy show in 2007. Since then, it has anchored itself as an essential, and beautiful store on London’s prestigious Regent street. Since those early days, COS has opened over 14 stores across the UK, 9 of which are located within London.

I myself only discovered COS last year whilst wandering through Regent Street, lacking a killer outfit for VOGUE festival. I took drastic measures and decided to wander into unfamiliar territory, the COS flagship store, without much hope. I was mistaken. I quickly realized that COS represented something I love in fashion; Minimalism. The clean cut lines, the beautiful materials, the reasonable prices… Everything appealed to me. I quickly purchased a raglan-sleeved cotton jacket for £150 and never looked back.

This is me at VOGUE Festival 2013 (Did I mention that Donatella Versace said she liked this jacket!?)

What further impressed me was the brand website (www.cosstores.com) – Not only does it offer a detailed shopping experience, it also offers an online magazine full of minimalist aesthetics – complete with interviews, galleries, biopics, it’s all very pale and beautiful.

COS to me is more than a brand, it’s an aesthetic. Whether you purchase one of their beautifully tailored shirts, or a sleek, smart dress – you can be confident that you are in safe, stylish hands.

Below are some of my favourite pieces from their A/W 2013 range.

This cotton mix knitted jumper has a subtle metallic sheen. With a round neckline, it has saddle-seam shoulders and long sleeves. It comes only in Black.

This round-neck dress has zipped side splits and pockets. A standard fit made from lightly textured fabric, it has softly curved shoulders, slim long sleeves and a hidden back zip. It comes in Black and White

This cuff is made from leather-covered metal with a hinged coloured metal plate fastening.

You can see more of what COS has to offer on their website, www.cosstores.com, or for those in or visiting London – Do take the time to visit their flagship store located at 222 Regent Street, W1B 5BD, London, United Kingdom. Happy shopping and embrace the minimal!

About Jack Purser

A 20 year old Bristol based disasterpiece. He was once complimented by Donatella Versace who said his jacket was ‘Good Fashion’ and Erin O’Connor also trod on his foot after rejecting his offer of a selfie at Vogue Festival. Since that baptism by fire, fashion has been his passion.
