Cucumber meets Canal Street

If you grew up in Manchester, you grew up on Canal Street. From paying for pints in the Rembrandt with 10p coins to the drag shows in Churchills, Canal Street is the heartline of Manchester’s gay village. And in this short video Cyril Nri, star of current hit Cucumber, looks back at its history. Tracing back from the 1920s when young men sought illicit company under the tunnels to its status as a thriving and vibrant community that has always strove for equality and excellence, Nri sees both the sadness of darker decades and the hope that keeps the Village going.
