With a plethora of styles and colours available, it can be difficult to pick out the perfect bag. Here we walk you through a selection of the hottest highstreet picks, drawing on inspiration straight from the catwalks.
The Backpack
A huge highstreet trend, the backpack is available in virtually every imaginable style! From contrasting canvas military style bags that work with the current camouflage craze, to bold Aztecs that compliment any festival goers outfit, there really is something for everyone. Accessories are a great way to add interest to any outfit. Sprayground has produced a range of simple-cut backpacks in eye-catching prints and patterns. For a sporty edge, Adidas Originals take inspiration from street culture and retro design, to provide fresh vintage inspired bags, complimenting the current trend for nostalgic and throw-back looks.
The Holdall
The classic go to, holdalls are a timeless travel favourite for all men. For autumn/winter 2013, Oliver Spencer added a splash of brave colour to the catwalk in the form of a burnt orange bag with contrasting brown leather detail. Contrast is also a big feature, not just in colour, but also in size. A bigger bag can slim down other proportions. A large leather holdall is the ultimate investment piece.
The Satchel
Vintage style satchels have been around for a few season, however this season it’s seen sitting with both contemporary heritage designs, while others have created more directional designs. The Cambridge Satchel Company kept it classic with leather satchels, adding a quirky twist with fluro colours. Meanwhile ASOS reinvented the classic in Aztec print canvas.
The Clutch
A favourite among catwalk designers, the clutch bag for men isn’t something that’s filtered through to the highstreet in such extreme doses . . . yet! Christopher Kane subtly introduced a series of clutch bags into his autumn / winter 2013 show during London Collections: Men earlier this year. Riccardo Tisci also used the bag, decorated with bold prints, as an accompaniment for Givenchy’s spring 2014 pre-collection. Topman currently stock a small range of “document cases”, which is a more masculine term for selling a clutch to men. A large leather clutch bag can be a great accessory for a smart suit.
Accessories are the easiest and usually least expensive way to break into a trend – a statement bag in the seasons hot colour or print will bring your current wardrobe up to date.
