Preview: Pink and Purple Afternoon Tea – Hilton Deansgate Manchester

Adam Lowe

Take your place among the clouds and take in bedazzling views of Manchester as you enjoy an unforgettable afternoon tea in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Available exclusively at Hilton Manchester Deansgate’s elegant sky bar, Cloud 23, the Pink and Purple Afternoon Tea shakes up the trappings of your average afternoon tea to give you an array of sweet treats and savoury favourites arranged on a specially crafted pink ribbon stand.

We’ve reviewed Cloud 23’s champagne breakfasts before, so we can verify that you’ll be in for a treat with the afternoon tea too. In-keeping with the pink and purple theme, everything on the menu riffs off these colours. We’re promised sandwiches with ribbon-like skeins of smoked salmon; a quiche of ruby-red beetroot & goats cheese; frittatas shot through with the purples of red onion, purple potato and purple carrots; and a fleshy pink ham hock with fruit chutney and lollo rosso wrap.

Sweet-wise, the afternoon tea continues in this vein: scones with glossy red cherries, Dorset clotted cream and sweet Damson jam; a bit of local inspiration in the Vimto cup cakes; floral lilac macaroons; aptly coloured Battenberg cakes; a silky pink and purple trifle; and candy floss for a bit of childhood nostalgia.
