Whilst we all know that Las Vegas is the king of kitsch and casino culture. But for an alternative way to experience the all-American thrill of the gaming tables, Atlantic City is a fantastic option.
This fun-loving city is located on the coast of New Jersey. And with its gaudy casinos, sprawling beaches, and pleasant boardwalk, it’s quickly earned the title of being ‘the world’s famous playground’.
Atlantic City became a tourist hotspot in the 1920s, and this era has inspired TV shows like Boardwalk Empire that illustrate the ‘Golden Age’ of the resort city.
There’s still a feeling of Prohibition-era fun that permeates the big gaming complexes like the Tropicana Casino Resort that have counted the likes of Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle amongst its famous patrons.

And those looking for a little retail therapy should definitely check out the fun underwater-themed four-storey Playground Pier mall that’s packed with all of the designer delights to make you stand out from the pack in Atlantic City’s casinos.
So from enjoying typical New Jersey treats like salt water taffy whilst strolling along the kitschy boardwalk, to checking out the dazzling lights of massive casinos like Harrah’s and Borgata, it’s clear why Atlantic City is such an enduring and popular tourist destination.
