Alternative Canadian band July Talk have just released their new single, ‘Strange Habit’.
Let’s just say I can certainly see this song working very well for an advert. I’m thinking a car ride in the middle of nowhere and somehow the advert ends up being about perfume. The opening of the track would most definitely work well for that set up. There’s also some early noughties vibes around the general sound, but I’m also getting Dido meets Massive Attack (‘Teardrop’) meets Biffy Clyro and I’m not sure whether or not that’s a good thing.
It’s the second track to be released from their upcoming album Touch, out 9 September, and follows the previous single ‘Push + Pull’, which spent over a month at #1 on the Canadian Alternative chart. ‘Strange Habit’ showcases a different tone for the band, it is a sombre track featuring vocals from Leah Fay and Peter Dreimanais. Having already made a big impression in Canada, the band will be embarking on a tour across North America, Europe and the UK (September), and will be supporting Nothing But Thieves on selected dates in the U.S.
