Stars and fans alike are in mourning for the passing of Dead or Alive frontman and iconoclast Pete Burns. Known worldwide for his classic 1985 hit ‘You Spin Me Round’, Pete Burns was at the forefront of the era’s increasingly queer pop culture.
His increasingly unique style and outspoken temperament made him a celebrity that the public loved to talk about – for better or for worse. For example, he caused a stir when he appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in what he claimed was a gorilla-fur coat.
An official statement from the star’s management said, ‘All of his family and friends are devastated by the loss of our special star. He was a true visionary, a beautiful talented soul, and he will be missed by all who loved and appreciated everything he was and all of the wonderful memories he has left us with.’
Fellow 80s pop legend Boy George said, ‘Tearful about the passing of @PeteBurnsICON he was one of our great true eccentrics and such a big part of my life! Wow. Hard to believe!’

George Galloway and Preston from the Ordinary Boys, who both appeared in the CB house at the same time as Burns, both left messages of condolence on Twitter.
Galloway said, ‘Sad to hear of the demise of Pete Burns. He was a cross between Oscar Wilde and Dorothy Parker. You don’t get more brilliant than that. RIP.’
