Let’s face it, we all LOVE a Bank Holiday, and finally the season is approaching where we can plan a long weekend without having to chip into any annual leave. That is if you work in an office, retail workers and hospitality – we’re sorry! So what to do with your extra two days off in April? You could enjoy a bank holiday bender, but if you fancy something a little more cultural or relaxing then we’ve got some fantastic ideas for you! These Bank Holidays are precious, and should not be wasted spent in bed. Use your time off to explore something new whether that be a city you’ve never been to before, a trip to the coast or even a local restaurant.
We’ve rounded up our favourite ideas for a cracking (excuse the pun) Easter weekend…
Hop on the Eurostar
If you’re based near to or around the London area, spending a weekend in Paris couldn’t be easier! A mere two-hour journey on the Eurostar, you’ll be testing that French GCSE in no time at all. Paris can be an expensive city, but you can always reduce the cost by staying a little out of the centre and making the most of the metro. Areas such as Montmartre are an ideal option, for a decent room at a reasonable cost check out Hotel Des Artes. Just around the corner from the Moulin Rouge and a five minute walk from the nearest metro stop, it’s a great location. Or why not look into renting an Airbnb? It can be relatively cheap with a group so it’s always an option. Spend a night or two exploring the beautiful Parisian streets, taking a million selfies at the Eiffel Tower and enjoying a croissant or two.
Enjoy a Weekend in Bath
Bath is one of the gems of the UK, a beautiful city bursting with history. If you’re yet to visit, pencil a weekend away and play tourist! Wander around the Roman Built Baths, enjoy a spot of afternoon tea and if you’re a Jane Austen fan why not visit the centre that’s dedicated to the late author? There are also plenty of restaurants to enjoy in Bath, and you won’t be short of a pub either! For the best vegan food in the city head to The Acorn Kitchen, serving delicious veggie and vegan options such as walnut tortellini and sautéed cauliflower heart.
Relax at a Luxury Spa
You’ll have made it through a third of a year (crazy, right?) so now it’s time to kick back, relax and enjoy a well-deserved pamper. If you feel like your batteries are running low then a relaxing spa weekend might be just what you need. Escape to the countryside and check in to the luxury Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa in Newmarket, Suffolk for a long weekend of pure tranquillity. Ease those muscles in the hydrotherapy pool, kick back in the relaxation room and enjoy plenty of delicious dishes from the hotel’s award winning restaurant. It’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, breathe in fresh countryside air and simply relax.
Escape to a Treehouse
Unleash your inner child and spend the weekend enjoying one of the UK’s increasingly popular treehouses. Don’t be fooled these treehouses are anything but roughing it, they’re the height of glamour and offer a comfortable, cosy stay! If you’re feeling flash, then be sure to check out the Chewton Glen treehouses which offer a romantic and luxurious stay. Featuring forest views, outdoor hot tubs and beautiful marble bathrooms they certainly offer a weekend with a difference. They might be costly but a stay in one of these tree houses will give you a truly unforgettable experience.
Head Down to the Coast
You don’t have to jump on a plane to enjoy sandy beaches and salt water. Cornwall is a naturally stunning part of the UK that is always worth a visit! Hopefully the Bank Holiday curse of rain won’t apply and we can enjoy a little bit of sunshine. St Ives is a particularly beautiful area of Cornwall and is bustling with galleries, restaurants and of course – fabulous beaches! It’s a fantastic place to bring your four legged friends and enjoy a morning stroll on the beach followed by a hearty breakfast. If you’re seeking a little luxury, the St Ives Harbour Hotel offers four star amenities and the sea view suites are particularly impressive.
So don’t leave it until the last minute to arrange your Bank Holiday weekend! Make the most of those two days, pack your bags and head somewhere new to explore, eat too much and drink too much. You won’t regret visiting any of these places, you’re sure to have an absolute blast.
