I must admit I was surprised to see Zayn team up with M.I.A. – I’m not sure why, but naturally that swayed me to give this track a listen.
M.I.A. is still in my bad books, but her oeuvre is good enough that she deserves a chance on principle alone.
This curious collab with Zayn is, surprisingly, quite a good track. It has some good lines throughout and it did make me move (which is always helpful). And of course, it delivers an important message about refugees.
I’m not sure how I feel about Zayn’s chorus – it feels a little too washed out for my liking. If I’d just heard it on the radio I wouldn’t know that it was Zayn singing, but that might actually be a good thing if you’re not a rabid One Directioner.
Is it M.I.A. at her best? Hell no. Is she still in my bad books? Perhaps. But should you give it a listen? Damn right.
